J. Jill Compassion Fund
FOCUS has been selected as a 2009 grant recipient for the J. Jill Compassion Fund. A combined Career and Counseling grant, this is the 4th year that FOCUS has received this award, which is committed to helping women achieve self-sufficiency and helps support the Women's Alliance for Self-Sufficiency program.

We Welcome New Staff
The Welcome to Cynthia Miller, M.Ed., NCC, LPC. Cindy comes to FOCUS in her final year of doctoral training in counselor education and supervision at the University of Virginia. She is a licensed professional counselor with over ten years of experience working with individuals facing normal developmental issues and life transitions to severe and persistent mental illness. She is excited to be working at FOCUS, where she hopes to build on her clinical skills by providing couples counseling in addition to individual counseling with clients of all ages.

The FOCUS Flea
The Focus Women's Resource Center FLEA market is open every Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00AM to 7:00PM. Come shop every Friday and Saturday from 10:00AM to 4:00PM..

We offer clothing, NEW MERCHANDISE JUST IN FROM J. JILL, miscellaneous household items and gently used clothing. This is a great opportunity to purchase new clothing and accessories, shoes, and boots from J.Jill for yourself, or for holiday gifts at very reasonable prices.

The FOCUS FLEA is located at 953 Second St., S.E. (IX building, off of Elliott Ave) in Charlottesville, Va. There is plenty of free parking. We are right next to Blue Wheel Bikes. Directions.

Volunteers Needed
Resource Mothers -to assist our Pregnant and Parenting Teen Program. The Resource Mother makes home visits to teens enrolled in the program on a weekly basis to teach them how to take care of their new families and themselves providing emotional support when needed and linking them to health and social services. Training is provided. Please call Ann Smith, Lead Resource Mother, at (434) 293-2222 ext. 24.
Data Entry Clerk- To input program participant data into an automated system with accuracy and timeliness.
Front Desk Receptionist - 2 hours/day available
Flea Market/Trunk Sales - help stocking and sales on Wednesdays 11:00am to 3:00am, plus one Saturday each month.

MICROLOAN Program

Hours and Weather-related Closings
Our normal hours are 8:30 to 4:30, Monday through Friday. In case of inclement weather, FOCUS follows the Charlottesville City School schedule. If they are closed, we are closed.

Thank Yous
FOCUS Women’s Resource Center Counseling Services was selected to receive a grant through the CVS Caremark Community Grants 2009 grant application process. Grants were awarded to organizations that share a common interest with CVS Caremark of supporting programs for the uninsured, which help to make health services affordable and easy to access. The goal of the program is to provide relief for both adults and children who lack medical insurance to get the proper medical attention needed.

The Alliance for Interfaith Ministries awarded additional grant money to the Microloan Program for Women.

Thanks to Ashley Herndon, psychology major at Longwood University, for her internship at Counseling and Career Services. She was nicknamed "Speedy" because of her ability to complete any request in a short period of time!

Thank you to Pam Johnson, Attorney-at-Law, for making Lawyer Assistance Night possible. Since 2007, this program has helped over 100 women and men with their legal questions.

Thank you to Wendi Woodson of Clearpoint Financial Solutions for the Personal Money Management Series this past spring.
